My Seafood Dinner at Waikiki -San Juan Puerto Rico

CRIPSY JUMBO SHRIMP FROM WAIKIKI

The Waikiki Oceanfront restaurant is one of the most unique dining experiences you can have in Puerto Rico.

Located in the Condado section of San Juan seafood is their specialty.

Our story began in 2002 in Condado, and since then we want our customers to feel well taken care of while tasting our dishes.โ€‹

So on my last trip to Puerto Rico I heard from the locals that Wakiki was a must do spot.

When I first arrived the hostess advised me that there would be a one hour wait for the oceanfront seating.

Otherwise I could sit in the front area of the restaurant if I didn’t want to wait.

Obviously I was willing to wait, especially since an hour is the typical wait times at home in New York.

Not long after the hostess let me know a table had become available due to a canceled reservation.

Now let’s talk food.

After taking a look at the menu it was time to place my order.

First we started with some Specialty Cocktails.

Passion Fruit and Classic Mojito

A mojito is a classic highball drink that originated in Cuba. Not surprisingly, this cocktail uses ingredients indigenous to Cuba, including rum, lime, mint, and sugar.

My drink was good, the Rum, Mint, Lime, Sugar and Club Soda were evenly balanced.

After that it was time for the appetizers, that we shared.

Crispy Jumbo Shrimp

The Jumbo Shrimp were delicious fried very light and the shrimp were very fresh.

Next it was time for the specialty entrees.

Shrimp Stuffed Mofongo

The Mofongo was so good! Nice and garlicky just the way I like it!

Mofongo is a dish from Puerto Rico with plantains as its main ingredient. Plantains are picked green, cut into pieces and typically fried but can be boiled or roasted, then mashed with salt, garlic, broth, and olive oil in a wooden pilรณn.

Last but not least I had my main entrรฉe which was the Grouper.

Blackened Grouper Fillet

Absolutely delicious dish, the Grouper was so fresh and buttery.

My only complaint is that I wish the side order of veggies was a bit larger.

Grouper is a lightly flavored blue fish with slightly sweet undertones. Compared to other fish, it is one of the lightest with minimal flavor. The taste profile is a cross between halibut and bass.

It was so fresh that it tasted like they just got it of the ocean which may be true since the Ocean is literally their backyard.

To sum things if you are looking for a breathtaking dining experience I would highly recommend going to Waikiki Ocean Front.

And make sure you request a seat by the Ocean!
