For the remainder of this Black History Month..
I wanted to showcase some of my favorite Black Owned businesses here in the tri-state area.
Beginning with Harlem’s incomparable Amy Ruth’s.
Just as the sign above their restaurants reads “The Authentic Soul Of New York.”

Amy Ruth’s has been the soul of New York for the past twenty-six years.
” we continue in the tradition of Amy Ruth Moore Bass and the legions of other great Southern cooks โ mothers and grandmothers, aunts and uncles, sisters and brothers โ who have given the world this cuisine we have come to know as Soul FoodโฆSouthern Comfort Cuisine.”
Located on the West Side of Harlem on 116th street.
Between Adam Clayton Powell JR and Malcolm X Blvd.
The location is pretty spacious with two levels the upper level is mostly used on the weekends.

Because I arrived as soon as the doors opened at 11am, I kinda had the place to all to myself for a while.
It should be noted that the crowds started to arrive around 12pm and after.

For this reason my advice is to get there early to avoid long lines and wait times.
Especially on the weekends when they are at their busiest.
NOW LETS TALK FOOD AND COFFEE!
First and foremost I started off with a nice cup of hot coffee.

My coffee was really good, admittedly much better that I expected for a non specialty coffee spot.
Following that I started chowing down on my appetizers which was their Cornbread and Salmon Croquettes.

My Cornbread was tasty.

The Salmon Croquettes were okay a little to salty for my taste.
After that I had “The Rev Al Sharpton” which is their signature Chicken and Waffle dish.
So, I have to say that I did not really enjoy my waffle as much as I had hoped.
It was definitely missing something perhaps buttermilk.
Conversely the fried chicken was incredible!
That first bite into it was hot, crunchy, juicy just absolutely delicious!
Of course I couldn’t leave without having something sweet to end my meal.
I chose to go with a slice of their “C.Elaine Parker” Pineapple Coconut Cake.

My slice of Pineapple Coconut Cake was solid!
