So the other day I was in the mood for some Caribbean food and decided to check out Island Bites.

As a whole there aren’t many Caribbean restaurants in Manhattan.

So its a take what you can get kind of situation in the way of Caribbean food.

Because of this I typically stick to the ones I know and frequent like Sisters Cuisine.

But this time I decided to try something new.

So after a quick Google search I came upon Island Bites.

Trini-Haitian take-out restaurant – Spanish Harlem! Caribbean cuisine that will leave you wanting more

One of the main reasons I decided to give these guys a try was because of the positive customer service reviews.

And I must admit the moment I walked in the reception from the owner was very warm and inviting.

It should be noted that the space here is very small.

In fact there is only room for a party of two-four to sit down for a meal comfortably.

So this is a mostly take-out or delivery kind of restaurant.

Now Lets Talk Food & Drinks.

First I started off with a D & G Jamaican soft drink.

D& G Jamaican Kola
$3.00

The Kola and Pineapple are the best flavors of this Kola in my opinion.

In fact while I was there placing my order another customer suggested I order it.

Potato salad
$6.00

I must say I really did enjoy the Potato Salad,it was both zesty and sweet. Which is how I like it.

For my entree I decided to go with their Large Oxtail Meal.

Large Oxtail Meal
$25.00
Includes your choice of 3 sides.

The Oxtail was cooked well with a lot of gravy. But there was something missing. It was just ok.

And here are the three sides I chose.

Rice and Peas
$6.00

The Peas and Rice was a little dry in my opinion, also it was missing that Coconut flavor that I am accustomed to.

Steam Cabbage
$6.00

The Steamed Cabbage was just average lacking a bit of flavor.

Macaroni and Cheese
$7.00

Their Mac & Cheese was pretty good, and probably my favorite part of the meal.

Of course I had to end my meal with a dessert.

I decided to go with a slice of their Yellow Pound Cake.

Yellow Cake
$4.00

I enjoyed my cake,it was moist and fluffy and the frosting was delicious.

All in all my meal was pretty tasty and enjoyable.

Conversely would I be running back there anytime soon?

Probably not for a meal but the dessert was pretty good.

To conclude as far as options for Caribbean restaurants in Harlem my dining experience at Island Bites was average.
