As a child of immigrants I love to support local business built by immigrants.
Quesadillas Doña Maty in East Harlem is one of those businesses.

Matilde Herrera or as many may know her “Doña Maty”, has been serving antojitos Mexicanos in East Harlem for more than 16 years.
The art of a hand made tortilla and authenticity of Mexican street style food caught the attention of many customers and brought nostalgia to many fellow Mexicans who sadly haven’t been able to visit their home country
One of the many magical things about living in New York,
is being able to get your antojitos Mexicanos at any hour.
I stop in Quesadillas Doña Maty at least three times a month to get my fill of their Tortas, Gorditas & Tacos.

As well as my favorite fruit flavored soda Jarritos.
The Mandarin is my favorite flavor of them all.
I really love the vibrant colors and authentic décor of this restaurant.
While this restaurant may be small in size it is large in culture.

There is a piece of history in every corner of the restaurant that has its own story.
Like the section where they store some of their very popular sauces like Tapatio.

Tapatío is an American hot sauce produced in Vernon, California. It is popular mainly in the United States, predominantly among Mexican American communities
Or the way the colors of their very popular beverages like their Horchata just illuminate the place.

What is Mexican horchata made of?
Horchata (pronounced or-CHAH-tah) is a popular Mexican drink that is often described as a sweet rice milk beverage. Horchata is made out of rice, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon and is served in many Mexican restaurants
Next to that we have a display of the ever so popular rolled corn tortilla chip Takis.

Takis are a Mexican brand of rolled corn tortilla chip snack made by Barcel, a subsidiary of Grupo Bimbo. Fashioned after the taquito, it comes in numerous flavors.
Last but not least we have the infamous El Maizal corn flour.
Undoubtedly one of the most important ingredients in Mexican fare.
Premium instant masa flour to make your very own authentic and delicious tortillas, tamales, pupusas, atole, empanadas, gorditas, sopes, enchiladas and many more traditional meals.
Finally we come to some of our favorite street styles dishes.

While everything on their menu is delicious the tacos are my favorite.
Not only can you get the traditional Mexican style taco but also The American style for $1 extra.
What is in a traditional Mexican taco?
Lime is probably the most essential of authentic Mexican taco toppings. A squeeze of lime adds a dash of acid that brings out the other flavors in a taco beautifully. Onions, cilantro, pico de gallo, sliced radishes or cucumbers, avocado, and chili peppers are also standard toppings for authentic tacos.
American tacos are your typical taco night fare – they’re known for having hard, crispy shells, and are usually filled with ground beef and piled high with toppings like lettuce, tomato, and shredded cheese.
Although I do love me some American styled Tacos I will never order them at an authentic Mexican restaurant.
Unquestionably the better choice in my opinion is a traditional styled Mexican Taco.
