La Cueva In The BX Is All About Authentic Mexican

I first discovered La Cueva Fonda from Secret Nyc’s 30 Must-Visit Women-Owned Restaurants In NYC.

Just like them I wanted to highlight some women owned restaurants in honor of Women’s History Month.

“Womenโ€™s History Month is a celebration of womenโ€™s contributions to history, culture and society and has been observed annually in the month of March in the United States since 1987.”

So the first stop on my list was La Cueva Fonda located in the Longwood section of the Bronx.

This local spot prides itself on only serving the freshest most authentic ingredients.

It was clear how much the community backed this restaurant.

As I watched the owner’s answer the phones, fill orders all while waiting tables.

I arrived there a little after 11am on a Saturday.

There were a few tables taken but not all.

But as I mentioned I got the impression that the bulk of their business comes from online orders.

This space can hold about thirty people comfortably.

There is about three to four tables as well some bar stools at the front.

Its a pretty decent size restaurant.

Now lets talk food & drink!

I decided to order from their “All Day Breakfast“menu.

I decided to go with the Huevos A La Mexicana.

Firstly, I started off with a cup of their Mexican coffee which is called Cafe de Olla.

Cafe De Olla-“In Mexico, a basic cafรฉ de olla is made with ground coffee, cinnamon, and piloncillo

Admittedly I did not enjoy my coffee as much as I had hoped on the account of it being cold.

They did reheat it and it was good but the body and aroma were no longer there.

After that I started to delve into my entree.

I must say I really enjoyed my breakfast more than expected.

Unlike my coffee my entree arrived nice and hot and was full of flavor.

Last but not least I ended my meal with something sweet as is customary. ๐Ÿ™‚

Conversely the Flan was made really well, it was fresh and delicious!

All in all I enjoyed my breakfast at La Cueva Fonda.

Initially my review started off very poorly for this restaurant.

The cold customer service and coffee almost immediately sealed my review.

But they were able to turn my opinion around by the time I received my food.

In closing if you are looking for a local authentic restaurant I would say La Cueva Fonda is worth a try.
